Californians Take to the Streets to Protest COVID-19 Lockdown

Nearly 400 Californians calling themselves “Curfew Breakers," protested in Huntington Beach against the overnight curfew ruled by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The crowd grew larger by midnight.

Additionally, hundreds of people demonstrated in front of the River Park Shopping Center in Fresno telling ABC 30 the new restriction will affect small businesses, and this is “the wrong way” for handling the situation.

At the same time, the authorities in Los Angeles County prohibited dining out and closed the country bars effective on Wednesday.

On Friday, protesters burst out in front of LA Mayor Eric Garcetti’s residence in what became “Curfew Protest Block Party: No More Lockdown.”

The current lockdown will continue for three weeks unless exceeded. During that time, only drive-thru, take-out, and delivery services will be allowed, and state residents should stay home from 10 p.m. to 5 unless they are responding to life’s essential needs.

While the protests continue, state authorities are considering even harder restrictions due to the latest COVID-19 cases surge.
