GOP Lawmakers Seek to Impeach Whitmer

On Sunday, Republican Matt Maddock announced that he and a “growing list of Michigan Legislators” will seek to impeach Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

According to Maddock’s post on Twitter, among the lawmakers seeking Whitmer’s impeachment are the state Reps. Daire Rendon, Ryan Berman, Beau LaFave, John Reilly, and Shane Hernandez.

The impeachment announcement was made on the day after health officials in Michigan revealed new pandemic restrictions, effective on Wednesday.

Following the “rise up” call by White House coronavirus adviser Scott Atlas, Gov. Whitmer issued a second stay-at-home order for Michigan and stated that citizens “need to be focused on the public health crisis that is ravaging our country and that poses a very real threat to every one of us.”

A bit later, Matt Maddock shared on Facebook his reasons why Gov. Whitmer should be dismissed from her post, involving “Ignored court orders. Violated our Constitutional rights. Completely ignored due process and the legislature. Weaponized contract tracing databases to aid democrat campaigns.”

In response to Maddock’s claims, Tiffany Brown, press secretary of Gretchen Whitmer, stated that "Governor Whitmer doesn't have any time for partisan politics or people who don't wear masks, don't believe in science, and don't have a plan to fight this virus” as “she is focused on saving lives.”

Brown also added that Gov. Whitmer will continue to work hard for Michiganders and she “doesn't care if you're a Trump Republican or a Biden Democrat” as “We are all in this together."
