House Passes $2 Trillion Stimulus Package

A historic $2 trillion stimulus package was passed by congress and signed by President Trump on Friday afternoon.

Damage Control

The stimulus package is by far the largest in US history – one aimed at helping American workers, small businesses and those affected by the damage done by COVID-19, as strict measures have been implemented across the country, leading to many businesses closing doors and millions being left jobless.

The House of Representatives approved the bill early Friday, after settling on what to do about Republicans’ demand to vote in person. The law had already passed the Senate earlier this week.

Despite the drama involved with Rep. Thomas Massie’s uncertainty over requesting a full roll call vote, many lawmakers rushed to Washington to establish a quorum and deny the attempt, as the House leadership denied Massie the support needed to pass his request, and the vote was made by voice.

The $2 trillion package will include stimulus checks for individuals, couples and families, a big expansion of unemployment benefits, as well as money for hospitals and health care and financial assistance for small businesses and loans for those in distress over the current situation.
