How to Permanently Delete Your Instagram Account

Instagram is one of the most popular websites in the world. It’s the eighth-largest overall online community and the third-largest social media website with over a billion users. As much as we all love social media, there definitely comes a point when you want to disconnect and disable your accounts. Whether it be for privacy reasons, to evade a stalker, or just to take a break, permanently deleting Instagram is something every user has considered at one point or another. If you’ve reached that point, then here’s how to delete your Instagram account permanently.

What Does Deleting Your Account Do?

After you choose to delete your account, all of your photos and videos, not to mention your comments, likes, and followers, will all be deleted along with your profile. If you’re looking just to take a quick break from the platform, you can just temporarily disable an Instagram account too.

Once your account has been deleted, you will no longer be able to sign in with your old username. You also can’t create an account with that username. Keep in mind that Instagram is unable to restore deleted accounts. This is a permanent step that can’t be undone!

How to Delete an Instagram Account

  1. Start by going to the “Delete Your Account” page on Instagram. If you aren’t logged into your account, then you’ll have to log in first. You have to delete your account via a web browser as it can’t be done from within the app.
  2. Choose an option as to why you are deleting your account from the list. Instagram likes to know these things. You can’t delete your account without choosing a reason. After selecting a reason to delete your account, you’ll be asked for your password.
  3. Choose the option “Permanently Delete My Account”

If you want to delete other accounts, then you can log out of your account and log in with the one that you want to delete. The instructions from there are the same.

For security purposes, Instagram isn’t able to delete accounts for you. You can’t message them requesting your account to be deleted. You have to log in through the web page and do it yourself so they know it’s you and the request is legitimate.

Summary

Deleting your Instagram account means getting back the personal time that being on social media used up. It gives you the chance to escape from the internet (or at least a portion of it) and get back to living in the real world. Don’t forget that if you just want to take a short break, you should just disable your Instagram account instead of deleting it entirely.
