Union vs Trump: $150 Million Effort to Target 8 Battleground States

$150 million is the sum that one of America’s largest unions is ready to invest in a campaign meant to bring about Trump’s downfall in the presidential elections this year.

The Service Employees International Union, or SEIU for short, is the most diverse union in the US.  This very same union is now aiming to deny President Trump another four years in office. The union plans on investing $150 million nationwide to campaign against Trump, but the main focus is down to eight battleground states and minority communities. 

Colorado, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin will be the key players that the union will be targeting, although Detroit and Milwaukee also sit at the top of the list as states that union members believe could potentially turn the tides of the election, per the plan shared to The Associated Press. 

The main form of advertising, however, won’t be taking advantage of TV or media, but rather the old- fashioned way – direct contact, with a dash of modern civilization through online ads that target minority voters who don’t typically vote. 

“He’s systematically unwinding and attacking unions. Federal workers rights have been totally eviscerated under his watch. We are on fire about the rules being rigged against us and needing to elect people that are going to stand with workers,”

Despite the efforts, it could all be for naught as the president is all but set up for a second term with a recent win against Democrats in the Senate, as well as his policy on the economy and the record low unemployment rates, which generally satisfy a majority of voters. 

SEIU will be aiding Democrats in the election, although the top priority remains to deny Trump another mandate. As for whether or not the union will be endorsing a Democratic candidate, president Henry did not deny the possibility, but no name was mentioned.
