National Guard Deployed in Oregon as "Widespread Violence" Intensifies

The National Guard was deployed into Portland, Oregon, as the violence in the aftermath of the still undecided 2020 Presidential Election has accelerated. After the protesters damaged properties in the city center, the authorities declared the scene a riot.

The sheriff’s office in Multnomah County defined the protests as “widespread violence” and tweeted that the Oregon National Guard will assist law enforcement “In the interest of public safety.”

The sheriff’s office also added that the National Guard is trained in "crowd control and will be riding with local response teams."

Fox 12 reported that two clusters of demonstrators had protested in different parts of Portland before reaching the city center about 7pm on Wednesday. Some of them became violent, damaging windows, buildings, and ATMs across the city.
