“Saturday Night Live” took some staggering shots at Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis this past weekend.
Following the pandemic shutdown, the hosts of the “Weekend Update” satire segment, Colin Jost and Michael Che, got back on the air for the first time and mocked Trump’s diagnosis.
“Say what you will about 2020, but it’s got moves,” Jost began the segment and added that “This news was a lot for us to process a day before we came back on the air after four months off — and it all happened so fast."
According to Jost, it’s been “weird” to see that so many of Trump’s opponents and critics have wished him well after the president tweeted he and his wife had been infected with coronavirus on Thursday.
“I think a lot of them are just guilty that their first wish came true,” Jost said.
The “Weekend Update” hosts have mocked Donald Trump for holding rallies amid the pandemic despite the safeguards and precautions taken by the Trump campaign.
Jost’s colleague Michael Che said that he thought “Trump was trying to get coronavirus” and that the president was like the scene in the movie "Groundhog Day" when Bill Murray knew he couldn’t die and he was just trying anything.”
“Actually, I wish him a very lengthy recovery,” Che added.
When the “Weekend Update” was closing, Jost opined that the President would not be as graceful as Joe Biden in case the situation was reversed.
