Violence in NYC Rises

New York City on Monday saw 17 people shot – an “astronomical” number for a Monday, and an already high tally for a weekend day. Out of all boroughs, Brooklyn experienced the most incidents, with 10 shootings and 12 victims, sources say.

Seven of the Brooklyn victims were hit in five different incidents in the borough’s 69th Precinct, which covers the Canarsie neighborhood, police and sources said, with three shootings occurring in a 15-minute span. Two others were shot in Manhattan, and one each in New York’s three other boroughs.

A 20-year-old man was gunned down in the lobby of a building near Stanley Avenue around 3 a.m. Monday in the precinct, authorities said.

One of the victims in Manhattan is a 17-year-old who was shot while standing in the George Washington Houses courtyard in East Harlem.

Another 15 people were victims of gun violence from midday Saturday into Sunday, as Monday continues the trend of a rise in gun violence in the city.
