Oscar Nominations Announced: “Joker” Leads Pack with 11 Nominations

"Joker" leads the nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards with 11 nominations, setting a new record for the most nominations a comic book-based movie has ever received.

"Joker" To Win Best Picture?

Some of the more exciting categories "Joker" is competing in are best picture, best actor, best director and best adapted screenplay, although the competition this year will be rough, as "Joker" will be squaring off against eight other excellent films including: 1917, The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit, Ford v Ferrari, Little Women, Marriage Story, Parasite and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Right behind the leader, are three films with 10 nominations each. All of the 3 are considered strong competitors for the prize of best picture: Scorsese’s The Irishman, Sam Mendes’ 1917 and Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Nominations for best actor and best director go to Joaquin Phoenix in the version of the role of the Joker, and Todd Phillips respectively. Despite the film’s success, it was not a gem in many critics’ eyes, making the amount of nominations and support quite surprising.

The 92nd Academy Awards will be hosted by Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater on Feb. 9, and with such a stacked roster of films in the best picture category, it's anyone's guess who’s going to win this time around.
