RBG, 87, Released From Hospital

Ginsburg has had a long career serving on the high court, despite her history of medical issues.

87-year-old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been released from the hospital, a day after being admitted due to a possible infection, a Supreme Court spokesperson said.

RBG Hospitalized

“Justice Ginsburg was admitted to The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland early this morning for treatment of a possible infection,” spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg said.

Arberg added that Ginsburg was initially evaluated at Sibley Memorial Hospital in D.C. after experiencing fever and chills, later being moved to Johns Hopkins, where a bile duct stent was cleaned out during the afternoon. Arberg said that Ginsburg will be staying in the hospital for a few days to receive antibiotic treatment.

Ginsburg has had a long career serving on the high court, which hasn’t been interrupted despite her history of medical issues, as the Justice heard oral arguments by phone plenty of times, with the latest dating back to May.

The first time she missed oral arguments was in January 2019, due to her recovering from surgery after two cancerous nodules were removed from her left lung the previous month.

Her health issues have come under scrutiny, however, as the court is struggling with cases that could change American laws. Although Ginsburg is a liberal judge, President Trump has praised her for some rulings, which were good for him, and hopes she gets better.

As the Supreme Court continues to tilt right with Trump’s appointments of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, the liberal Ginsburg continues to energize Democrats, and is mostly known for her opinions on civil rights issues, including the case opening up the Virginia Military Institute to women.
