Romney Confirms Phony Twitter Account

The account @qaws9876 on Twitter with the name Pierre Delecto was confirmed to be Sen. Mitt Romney.

The account is locked, following 702 users and having 1,173 followers, while not following President Trump. When asked about the mysterious account by a writer for The Atlantic, Romney said “c’est moi,” meaning “it’s me,” in French.

Many made jokes about the name and the existence of the account itself:

“Stop me if you heard this one: Pierre Delecto, Carlos Danger and John Barron walk into a bar...”

Reminding people of the Anthony Weiner – Carlos Danger saga, and John Barron – supposedly the name of Trump’s spokesman in the 1980s, believed to be Trump himself responding to reporters: “Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Excellence,” was the book The Washington Post used at the time to report that Trump and his father would use fake names for fake spokesmen.

Romney’s relationship with the president has been drawing eyes, with the senator being a fellow Republican, however, criticizing Trump on many issues, like recent developments around Syria, where Romney said Trump’s actions and decisions were an appeal to racism and that the U.S. was abandoning allied Kurdish fighters.

“The places where I would be most critical of the president would be in matters that were divisive, that appeared to be appealing to racism or misogyny, and those are the kinds of things I think that have been most, most harmful long term to the foundation of America’s virtuous character,” Romney said.

Even though Romney votes with the president 80 percent of the time, there have been many clashes between the two in recent years, like Trump making fun of Romney for his 2012 loss against Obama, and recently branding the senator a “pompous a--,” who “choked” his White House run, while earlier this year Romney said Trump’s conduct only confirms that “he has not risen to the mantle of the office.”
