On Thursday, Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a stay-at-home to fight the coronavirus surge in California. The safety measures also involve stringent rules for public and private gatherings, in-person shopping, and travel.
Order to Last 21 Days
The stay at home order, which will begin on Saturday, will last not less than 21 days unless extended.
Although 11 counties in Southern California and 12 in San Joaquin Valley might have to comply with the new measures immediately. The list released by California health officials showed that no districts are currently within the threshold for closure. Hospital ICU units within the districts are currently at 85% capacity. However, if bed capacity decreases by 15%, the shutdown orders will be effective within 24 hours.
Californian authorities announced that if a district is temporarily closed, its re-opening will depend on a four-week prediction of the local ICU capacity. According to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who is quarantined after being exposed to COVID-19, the new restrictions "fundamentally predicated on the need to stop gathering with people outside of your household [and] to do what you can to keep most of your activities outside."
