NFL running back Ezekiel Elliott is enraged over the disclosure of his testing positive for the novel coronavirus.
HIPAA?
NFL Network on Monday saw Ezekiel’s agent Rocky Arceneaux confirming that The Cowboys’ running back was indeed infected with COVID-19, alongside multiple other players from the team and the Houston Texans. The 24-year-old star took to Twitter to express his anger over the information being made public.
“HIPAA?” Elliott wrote, referring to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which bars doctors from sharing medical information without the patient’s consent. Reporters are exempt from the act.
Elliott pointed out that his frustrations lie with the media and not his agent Arceneaux, saying that he only confirmed what was already a “written story.” Arceneaux added that despite the diagnosis, Elliott was feeling well and healthy.
The Cowboys said that it is unable to disclose any information on players’ health due to “federal and local privacy laws,” only saying that all CDC, local and NFL guidelines are being followed to keep employees and facilities safe, as some staff and coaches have resumed their work at the team’s training facility.
April saw Elliott receive plenty of criticism over not adhering to social distancing guidelines by working out with fellow players Dak Prescott, Dez Bryant and others.
Dallas County has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases, as it has registered over 300 new cases per day over the past week.
