Trump: Economic Reboot Timeframe ‘is the decision of the President’

President Donald Trump made it clear on Monday that he is THE decision-maker that will decide when the country will be reopening, as the Coronavirus spread slows.

“It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons. With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue. A decision by me, in conjunction with the Governors and input from others, will be made shortly!” Trump posted on Twitter.

As the Coronavirus is beginning to spread more slowly in a number of states, most are still under lockdown, with businesses shut down and millions left jobless – but that could change soon. Trump has been pushing to reopen the US economy to repair some of the damage caused by the outbreak, although governors and local leaders are worried that doing so now would cost lives and only extend the pandemic.

Last month saw Trump putting in place a nationwide stay-at-home recommendation, including endorsing social distancing to lower the spread of the Coronavirus, although some are questioning on what grounds he could possibly overrule local authorities, who can implement fines and other penalties for breaking the quarantine.

The president has also repeatedly been criticized for not implementing the social restrictions to limit the spread early enough, adding that new cases will definitely rise if the measures are removed.

“Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those kinds of decisions is complicated,” Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN when asked about the social restrictions.

Trump previously restricted travel to and from China in January, before the outbreak officially began in the US.
Federal officials have also been working on expanding testing capabilities and availability – including different kinds of tests – one kind for infections and another for antibodies – to determine who is already recovered or immune to COVID-19, as necessary steps to removing some of the measures still in place.

Dr. Fauci also said that some parts of the country could be seeing a “rolling reentry” as early as May, although there is no guarantee that Americans will be safe, even in later seasons. Fauci also added that any and all easing of restrictions will almost definitely see new cases of the Coronavirus.
