What is the NY Comeback Plan Post Pandemic?

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo talked briefly about the steps needed for the state’s eventual reopening, alongside a mix of “good” and “terrible” news from the Weekend.

Reopening NY – Tough to Plan

The daily press briefing began with a sigh of relief as new cases in the state are decreasing, with terrible news to follow, as Sunday marked 671 deaths, a number which is less than previous days, albeit “especially tragic” due to them occurring on Easter, Cuomo said. The governor also lamented the total amount of deaths to the virus, which has surpassed 10,000.

“You don’t know because nobody knows,” Cuomo said when asked about the state’s eventual reopening.

The governor detailed some of the necessary steps needed to reach the point of making a proper reopening plan, including easing isolation, increasing New York’s economic activity and expanding the category of “essential” workers – all steps that depend on testing capabilities and precautions to not get another big wave of infections.

Cuomo added that the plan will eventually be formed by public health and economic experts and not politicians, ideally with a similar schedule to neighboring states.

“It’s not going to be over like that. It’s not going to happen that way,” Cuomo said when asked when the outbreak will be over.

The governor, however, said that he hopes that the fear and anxiety lessens and eventually stops, adding that there will be milestones that serve as a way of seeing the improvement of the situation – such as the spread of the Coronavirus currently being close to halted.

Cuomo said that the crisis will likely last until a successful vaccine is made – which will likely happen in the next 12 to 18 months.
