Powell’s appointment to the investigation would be highly controversial, and would likely create friction with administration officials who don’t support the President's voter fraud allegations.
Recently, the US Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security concluded they had found no evidence of widespread election fraud. President Trump has yet to accept the outcome of November's election.
New York Times reported the discussion on Friday also involved Rudy Giuliani’s suggestion for seizing and checking the voting machines that Donald Trump claimed to be compromised during the voting process.
On Saturday, the President suggested an election systems hack on Twitter, writing that “There could also have been a hit on our ridiculous voting machines during the election, which is now obvious that I won big, making it an even more corrupted embarrassment for the USA.”
In an interview with CBS host Stephen Colbert, the President-elect Joe Biden stated that he wouldn’t take Donald Trump’s potential absence at his inauguration “personally,” however, he is afraid that if Trump boycotted it, this could harm the America's image globally.
Biden also added that Americans have been “the beacon of democracy for the last 200 years” and the part he worries about now is “how that reflects around the world.”
