Ridesharing has become a popular way to make money, but not everyone can become an Uber driver. You need to know the requirements to become an Uber driver in the US. 

Uber Driver Requirements 

The good news is that Uber isn’t too restrictive when it comes to their drivers. If you’ve got a good personality then you’re already halfway there. 

The minimum requirements to become a driver with Uber in the United States are: 

• To hold a valid driver’s license 
• To have been driving for at least one year (if older than 23) or for at least three years (if under 23)
• To meet the minimum driving age requirement for your city 
• To have a valid car insurance policy 
• To have a clean vehicle title and vehicle registration 

You will have to provide Uber with a copy of the important documents for them to review. Drivers will also be subject to an official background check, which is performed by Uber themselves. 

Uber will check to see if you have any driving infractions or any other kind of criminal history they should know about. This background check only goes back to the past seven years unless they need – and acquire – permission to go back further. 

Please note that applicants that have a criminal record including felonies, violent crimes, and sexual crimes are disqualified and will not be allowed to drive for Uber. 

Uber will take the age of the driver into account when it comes to driving records. If you are under the age of 23 then you will need three year’s driving experience to qualify. If you are older, then you need only one year of experience. You will be disqualified if you don’t meet that requirement. 

Other things that can get you disqualified are major violations such as driving under the influence or being involved with reckless driving. Minor infractions can impair your chances of success, but don’t outright disqualify you. Having three or more minor infractions – such as speeding – will disqualify you. If your record isn’t clean then you might want to wait before applying.
