Ukraine-Gate Timeline: What the Left Doesn't Want You to Know

There's been a lot of speculation recently about President Donald Trump and his connection to Ukraine, including a controversy that alleges Trump – and his top officials – solicited foreign interference in the upcoming 2020 election. How did this all begin, and where is it going? Here is a timeline of the events, including a few facts the mainstream media does not want you to know.

Background

The controversy first came to light when a whistleblower released a report stating that President Trump asked the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden – former Vice President and one of Trump's potential opponents in the 2020 election. Trump also asked for the president to investigate Biden's son Hunter Biden and to discuss the matters with his attorney Rudy Giuliani and the US Attorney General William Barr

Trump wanted the Biden's investigated for their alleged role in the Burisma Holdings energy company. Hunter joined the board of directors for the company in 2014 and was hired to help with "corporate governance best practices."

The head of the Burisma energy company – Mykola Zlochevsky – was being investigated for corruption, tax evasion, and money laundering – and had been since 2012. The investigation was taken over in 2015 by new prosecutor general Viktor Shokin. Shokin allegedly did a poor job of continuing the investigation, to the point the Obama administration considered conducting their own. Shokin was later removed from the position and believes that he was fired over the inquiry into money laundering, with Hunter Biden being a suspect or an accomplice in the matter.

Trump wanted the Ukrainian government to investigate whether Hunter was involved and whether Joe Biden used his influence to protect his son.

Fallout

President Trump has resisted efforts to give Congress access to the whistleblower reports, to the point that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on September 22 that if this withholding continued, then the administration would be "entering a grave new chapter of lawlessness which will take us into a whole new stage of investigation." Most Republicans have refused to comment on the manner, except for a few – Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham in particular – who suggest Trump should just release the information so the matter can be resolved.

Trump initially said that the whistleblower – who he does not know the identity of – was "partisan" and said the story was "just another political hack job." He also alleged that the press were not investigating Biden as they should be, saying, "Somebody ought to look into Joe Biden's statement because it was disgraceful where he talked about billions of dollars that he's not giving to a certain country unless a certain prosecutor is taken off the case. So somebody ought to look into that." The press, however, had looked into it for months and found no evidence of any wrongdoing.

Trump also claims that the call, was congratulatory in nature and said the pair discussed corruption. He has also denied using military aid to influence the Ukrainian investigation into Burisma and that he wants to meet the whistleblower.

Impeachment Proceedings

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on September 24, 2019, that there would be a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The Judiciary, Oversight and Reform, Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, Ways and Means, and Financial Services committees are to begin – or continue – formal inquiries into President Trump.

Three House committees issued Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with a subpoena to schedule depositions for four State Department workers and Ukraine envoy Kurt Volker. They also demanded Pompeo release the documents related to the inquiry. Pompeo refused to allow the depositions and claimed that they were requested to "bully" and "mistreat" the distinguished professionals. Giuliani has also been issued a subpoena to produce documents.

State Department investigator general Steve Linick held a meeting with several House committees related to the documents on Ukraine. Democrats said that Linick provided a "package of disinformation, debunked conspiracy theories, and baseless allegations. However, are these allegations really as baseless as the democrats say?

Conspiracies: What the Liberal Media isn’t Reporting

Of course,  themainstream media outlets like to grab every straw they can to target President Trump. However, they fail to investigate other variables that might not play in with their narrative. These range from the whistleblower's political affiliation to the involvement of third parties in the scandal.

The whistleblower is a democrat operative.

Some commentators have speculated that the whistleblower must have had help from others, perhaps as part of a coordinated conspiracy. The speculation was built around Adam Schiff, Fusion GPS, the press, Media Matters, a research team or team of lawyers, and the overall intelligence community in general.

The New York Times says that the whistleblower grew concerned by "how that initial avenue for airing his allegations through the CIA was unfolding" after he informed the CIA general counsel. He contacted an aide for the House Intelligence Committee and was told he should find a lawyer and file an official complaint with the ICIG. No one in the committee, including Representative Schiff, was involved in writing the complaint or helping the lawyer find an attorney. Trump claimed that the story from the NYT proved there was a connection between Schiff and the whistleblower, but they deny that and claim Schiff doesn't know who the whistleblower is. Right.

George Soros might have funded the entire scandal.

Giuliani asserted in several television appearances that George Soros was running anti-Trump schemes in Ukraine, and Biden was protecting him from prosecution there

There have also been claims that Soros funded the whistleblower, who made reference to the organization Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project. The organization has received grants from the Open Society Foundation, which is owned and operated by George Soros.

Mitt Romney and the Burisma connection.

Mitt Romney's comments that it would be "troubling in the extreme" if Trump had requested help from Zelensky prompted conspiracy theories that Romney had reassured Nancy Pelosi there would be Republican support for her impeachment inquiry

There were also allegations that Romney himself was connected to Burisma like Hunter Biden. An ex-advisor for his 2012 campaign joined the board of directors. However, they joined the board of directors in 2017 – years after Romney's 2012 campaign – and they are no longer affiliated with the senator. Or are they? The mainstream media is more interested in attacking Trump than looking further into the matter.
