Remains of Fort Hood Soldier Pvt. Mejhor Morta Found

A third body has been found near Fort Hood – that of Pvt. Mejhor Morta, 26, who was found unresponsive near Stillhouse Hollow Lake on July 17, Fort Hood officials said on Tuesday. The Bell County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the incident, although it’s unclear whether or not the death is considered suspicious.

Just a few weeks earlier, remains from another Fort Hood soldier, later identified as 20-year-old Fort Hood soldier Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was also discovered. It’s unclear whether the two deaths are connected. 

Who was Pvt. Mejhor Morta?

Morta joined the Army in September 2019 as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle mechanic, later being assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in May 2020. Morta’s awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. 

“The Black Knight family is truly heartbroken by the tragic loss of Private Mejhor Morta. I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and loved one,” Lt. Col. Neil Armstrong – Commander of the 1st Brigade 5th Cavalry Regiment.
